STORE CLOSING 8.17.24!

It is with mixed feelings I announce that when my lease ends at the end of August at my Five Points S. location, I will be closing my shop for my mental and physical health. This has been a very difficult decision and is not the message I had hoped to share. Click here to watch the video on my Facebook for some background.

Unfortunately, sales have not been where they need to be for me to feel comfortable signing another lease on a new space with commercial rent prices being as high as they are in Birmingham. I don’t feel like those who own buildings in this city want to support small businesses. There’s a reason so many have closed in the last year. It’s normal for small businesses to not break even for the first few years of business.

Capitalism and patriarchy are only set up to benefit a small percent, and it seems you have to have money to make money. And although I was able to raise a little capital and had some great opportunities come up to allow me to launch a brick-and-mortar, at the end of the day, I have been running myself into the ground working 6-7 days a week 12-14 hours a day working two part-time jobs on top of running the business, and it’s not sustainable for my health.

If I had to do it all again, I would. I don’t regret it for one second. I am so grateful to everyone who supported me on this journey, whether by investing or donating to help me launch the business, or by shopping or consigning with me. It means so much to me and to so many who have felt safe to shop in an inclusive environment. I will be open until August 17th, so please come shop with me and help me get rid of all of this inventory! Huge store closing sale happening now!

I hope I’ve made you smile, inspired you to go for your dreams, & care for the environment. Much love!

Do you feel seen for who you are as a person where you shop? We are committed to creating safe spaces for everyone and dismantling the patriarchy in the process. What is a gender-free shop, you may ask? Think no “women’s” or “men’s” clothing sections. Because clothes are just clothes, and gender is a social construct and is not binary! We also sell furniture, home goods, local art, and more!

ABOUT
THE OWNER

It all began when I had the chance to spend a year in Portland, Oregon, one of my favorite cities. I was inspired by the unique consignment shops in the Pacific Northwest. My personal philosophy is to shop secondhand as much as possible. I see it as a form of recycling, and I believe our dollar is our voice—what we support is what will grow. I have been a big supporter of small businesses, local artists, and nonprofits for many years.

Birmingham is my home. I wanted to bring a little bit of Portland back with me. Nine years later, my dream of opening my own consignment store in the Magic City finally happened!

Shortly after moving back to the South, I came out as queer. Now, in addition to my primary mission of sustainability, my goal is to create safe spaces for my commUNITY, especially the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities. Because when we support each other, together we can create solutions for a brighter future.
